Mini Review, Episode 6 - Gohan Makes a Friend

The Summary

In this episode we see Gohan is getting used to living in the jungle environment that Piccolo had left him two episodes ago. He was originally sent there for his survival training which was in preparation for the fight against the Saiyan's Nappa and Vegeta. In this episode we find him gathering food and befriending what looks to be an injured plant eating Sauropod (long necked plant eaters) like Dinosaur. While Gohan is away gathering more food another Dinosaur, which looks like a T-Rex with spikes, is attacking Gohan's friend. A mysterious force, which seems like a fast moving adult, stop's Gohan from saving his friend and knock's him unconscious. By the time he wake's up his Dino buddy has already been eaten...

Meanwhile, there is a baseball scene with Yamcha. Apparently, he doesn't like the sport very much but his martial art's training has made him a star in the sport. "It pay's the rent," Puar reminds Yamcha (pretty much the entire reason for playing baseball).. Krillin show's up during a brawl in the game and inform's him about the training that Kami want's to provide them for the fight against the Saiyan's. He's extremely excited by this and immediatly head's off to the training with Bulma and Krillin in a Capsule Corp plane of sorts.

The Review

The first thing that came to mind with this episode (since I hadn't seen it in a long while) was how the animation progressed through the series. Those of you who have joined us in the Cell or Buu saga in the U.S. will probably be the most surprised by this. Different voices, different music, and inferior animation. Just as animation was improving in Japan over ten years ago, the same has been happening here with the dub. Music and dialogue has really come a long why.

Today's episode specifically was one of those non-fighting episodes (with a little action here and there) and some fans might actually find this boring. Tomorrow's episode (or today rather as this review is being released one day after the episode aired recently) should have more action as Vegeta and Nappa will be in raising hell in Arlia.
