Wallpaper Contest: First Impressions

March 28, 2001

Well, it's the day after the contest and I'm busy looking through all the entries to see who is going to be the winner of this prestigious contest…

I've glanced at every single entry, trying to get that "first impression" feel for each one… I got a lot of standard wallpapers…. a lot of them.

I must be blunt: I was rather disappointed with the entries of this contest. Don't get me wrong, some at first glance looked very well done… but obviously the majority of you did not read Wallpaper Creation 101, which gave some interesting tips on creating a wallpaper that would appeal to ME, the judge…the person who determines whether or not you win… I'm still haven't seen a wallpaper in the entries that did something different, that no one else has done with a wallpaper before…if you wondering, "What else done with a wallpaper except putting a bunch of characters on it?" Check out the recent staff wallpapers to see how flexible wallpapers can really be for the creative medium.

Anyway, the point of this communication is to explain how the judging process will work:

  1. I will write a short review for EVERY WALLPAPER submitted, that you will be able to read with the wallpaper when all entries are posted and the winner is announced.

  2. Any wallpapers that I find in the DBZN's staff collection and in the fan section of the website will be thrown out as stated in the contest rules. I already suspect I have at least 5 or 6 that violated this rule…. Maybe you just couldn't wait to have it posted on the DBZN… but the bottom line is that it couldn't be on the DBZN when I see it. Which was today.

  3. When I finish my review of each… I will compare the reviews to determine the top 5, and then compare them against each other to get the winner.

I expect this process to take anywhere from 2 weeks to 20 days to do, this should also give me time to contact the winner and get his prize preference.

Keep Checking back often, because I just might get done early.
